Kelly Knight is an Outer Cape Cod-based visual artist whose work is deeply shaped by connection to place, memory, folklore, and magical realism - as well as her fascination with haunted houses and ghost stories.Just in time for Halloween, Knight presents a new series of works on paper in her upcoming solo exhibition, All Houses are Haunted. Each work in the show is a mixed-media collage that mostly uses acrylic paint, oil sticks, colored pencils, ink, and some photography as well as found images. Knight’s mixed-media approach weaves together paths, trees, houses, and ghost-like forms as threads of connection. Occasionally, the works incorporate text, potentially suggesting magic spells. Of her work, Knight reflects, “I don’t know why buildings can evoke strong feelings in some people – everything from uneasiness, the feeling of being watched, fear, or on the other end of the spectrum – warmth, contentment, belonging. It’s a bit mysterious and compelling. It’s not just about the buildings themselves. I’m also thinking about the possibility that there may be parallel realities happening around us all the time.” Step into this hauntingly evocative collection and discover how the physical spaces we build mirror and connect to the unseen worlds within and around us.Knight holds an MFA in 3D Fibers from Massachusetts College of Art & Design, and a BA in Creative Writing from Lesley University. At present, Kelly is a Resident Artist at The Commons in Provincetown and a member of the Sail Loft Art Collective. She teaches classes and workshops on creative process, drawing, and collage.
